Mike Vitellaro studied advertising at the University of Oregon. Well, that was his senior year. He spent his first three years trying to figure out how to counterfeit a college diploma. After a few close calls with the feds, his guilt outweighed his determination to beat the system and he became a born-again-student. The legitimacy of his degree is still questionable, though he still managed to land a job as a copywriter.

The new Publicis & Hal Riney site is beautiful, innovative and simple in its language and design. The menu is hidden in an awesome graphic of a plume of red dye that floats in the center of the browser, video is used throughout the site and the copy is kept to a minimum. All good [...]
“Hey Whipple, Squeeze This” third edition welcomes new media and DRTV to the mix
Tuesday, March 18th, 2008
I’m in the process of reading former copywriter and ad-guru Luke Sullivan’s guide to creating great advertising, “Hey Whipple, Squeeze This,” and I’m glad to see he made a couple of updates (okay, so it’s the third time I’m reading the book). In this third edition, the author has added two new chapters discussing [...]

Monday, January 7th, 2008
My apologies for the 3-week lull between entries. The holidays were here and I was busy being merry! Here’s tip [...]

Marketing your blog, part 2

A couple of weeks ago, I listed the first five steps to effectively market your blog. I went over choosing a URL, blogging software, design, keyword research and optimization, and now have a few “more technical” steps to add.
For 1-5, click here.
6. Enable automatic trackback and ping functionality—A trackback is a way to notify a [...]
Marketing your blog, part 1
Wednesday, November 7th, 2007
There are thousands of blogs—probably hundreds of thousands—on the web nowadays. It seems almost impossible to build readership on a new blog when you’re in the same arena with more long-standing, well-established blogs on the same topic, but I have 25 tricks to the trade that one person or company starting a new blog should [...]
What is Twitter?
Thursday, October 11th, 2007
I was almost entirely unsure of what exactly it was until I watched the video below. Twitter is a free social networking service that acts as a personal micro-blog. Through SMS, instant messaging or email, users can send updates to their account that are automatically sent to other users who have subscribed to their Twitter [...]
Engage Me, Sally

I have a crush on Social Media Marketing.
Social media marketing is that cool artsy chick from ceramics who you ran into at the Deathcab concert because she totally digs Deathcab and you totally dig Deathcab and it was totally a coincidence and there are sparks. Her name is Sally, and man, is she chill. [...]
